Barney Brumfiel, SBDC

Barney Brumfiel with SBDC visited Jasper CEO on Tuesday, September 30th. Barney works out of the Olney, IL office in conjunction with Illinois Eastern Community Colleges. He visited with us about the services SBDC offers to new and existing businesses in this 17 county territory including: one-on-one business advising, feasibility assistance, loan structuring, marketing research/strategy, and industry intelligence resources such as IBIS World, esri BAO and Lexis Nexis, just to name a few. Barney also helped CEO students to understand the importance of the business planning “process” over just the actual business plan itself. Not only did CEO students obtain great information for business planning for future opportunities but also advice on our upcoming class business! To learn more visit:

Speaking of class business…we have been hard at work on our class days at Farley Insurance honing in on the perfect class business for the 14-15 Jasper CEO class. We are still keeping our plans under wraps for the time being but, we are looking to have an extraordinary event that we feel could change economic development in Jasper County. Stay tuned for more!

Ken Snyder with Newton Dairy Queen

Thursday found us at Newton Dairy Queen with owner, Ken Snyder. Ken’s highlighted topic for the day was franchising. However, students gained so much more! Guest speakers and business visit hosts are encouraged to tell their personal story about the journey to where they are today. Ken’s started with “So in high school I decided I wanted a boat…” This theme intertwined throughout the morning as he used his “boat” analogy to symbolize the motivation that helps him strive to continue and expand his DQ businesses. Some lesson’s Ken shared with us included: 1. Developing relationships with people who can help you in the future. 2. You don’t have to be Einstein, but learn from every mistake. 3. Calculated risks, with the guidance of others, have to be taken if you are going to be an entrepreneur…..and you will fail…..and from that you will get an education. Good luck Ken! Let us know when you get that “boat”!

As you can see our new website is up and going with today being the grand unveiling! Please feel free to surf around and check us out. You will continue to receive weekly email newsletters, but now they will be emailed through our website to you! Enjoy!

Get Involved in CEO

The manner in which the CEO program is funded is critical to its success and sustainability. All funds raised are used exclusively for the Jasper County CEO program. To participate, a 3-year $1000 per year commitment is required. Business Partner Investors commitments of time and energy are also critical to the program's success. Contributions may be tax deductible, as our organization is a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization.

When we are not touring local businesses, we need a place to host the class. During that time, the 0 CEO students and their Facilitator would meet at your site where they would also have guest speakers and guests from the community attend. Hosting requires a facility with internet access and adequately accommodates up to 5 people.

We are looking for people to share real-life stories about the concepts of running a business, from strategic thinking, product development to marketing, and cash flow management. Also, sharing your personal successes and failures are what recent classes have enjoyed the most.

If you are interested in participating in any of the above programs, use our contact form to send us a message
